Planera Showroom – Kitchen 1 (2003-2010)

Retrospective:

Planera showroom – Kitchen 1 (2003-2010)

Location:

Richmond

Materials and finishes:

The kitchen design concept outlines an exterior frame from which interior cabinetry projects. In order to highlight this theme, two contrasting, yet complementing primary materials were selected. A ‘Quarter Cut’ White Birch timber veneer was used for the frame component of the cooking area, with a 2-pack polyurethane finish in half strength Dulux ‘China White’ for the inner projection. This scheme was then reflected onto the island bench. Complementing the two primary materials were reconstituted stone benchtops, colourback glass, corian, and natural anodized aluminium.

The fine details:

The ‘Quarter cut White Birch’ timber veneer was hand selected, stitched, and pressed onto panels specifically for this kitchen. The book matched leaf pattern was carefully planned according the width of the cupboard doors and panels.

The exterior façade conceals many hidden features, which add functionality to the modern aesthetic. A set down section for the cooktop provides an ergonomic advantage for standing over and looking in to pots. Additionally, recessed cabinets between benchtop and overhead units provide clever use of the available space.

The Planera showroom in Richmond benefits from an abundance of natural light. However, it is important to consider the necessity of task lighting for kitchen preparation areas. The dual tier overhead units allow for two rows of under cabinet task lighting.

Summary:

This former showroom kitchen provided our shop front for almost 7 years between 2003 and 2010. Although it was designed and constructed almost 10 years ago, it would not be out of place in any contemporary development. There are many design details which were particularly well executed by our cabinet manufacturing team. In particular, the matching of the timber veneer panels to create a perfect leaf pattern across the entire kitchen is worthy of high praise.

Project review: Toorak Kitchen

Project:

Architectural kitchen manufacture and installation (x2) into a pair of newly built townhouses.

Location:

Stonnington (Kooyong / Toorak area)

Materials and finishes:

The kitchen cabinet doors, drawer fronts and panels were finished in a gloss 2-pack polyurethane paint. This finish provided the perfect complement to the bold, almost monolithic, stone benchtops. Glass was also presented in several forms. Clear float glass doors inserts and shelves provide a window into internally illuminated display cabinets. Toughened colourback glass provides a durable and practical splashback, that also complements the modern aesthetic of the kitchen.

The fine details:

Our carpenters and joiners paid special attention to creating a seamless transition between the built in cabinetry and it’s environment.

This is highlighted by the tight junctions between the stone benchtop, colourback glass splashback and the painted panel underneath the overhead cabinetry.

Our installation team demonstrate their commitment to the task, with the toe kicker panel manually cut and shaped to accommodate inconsistencies in the floor level.

Summary:

Planera have completed another successful joinery fitout of a pair of newly built townhouses in the Kooyong / Toorak area. The architectural detailing has been faithfully reproduced in both the manufacture of the cabinetry, and it’s skillful installation to exacting tolerances. The project also included the full complement of joinery solutions, such as living room cabinets and shelves, bathroom vanities and walk-in wardrobes. The overall quality of the joinery fitout is a tribute to the care and devotion of our staff.
